Ivan Semenenko operates onlyivan.com and is the data controller for the processing described below. Enquiries and requests go to contact@onlyivan.com.

You are asked before anything is set. Decline and no measurement cookie is created, no identifier is issued, and no page view of yours is recorded. Declining costs you nothing: every page works exactly the same either way.

Three cookies exist in total:

• Your choice. One cookie remembers whether you agreed or declined, so that you are not asked again on every page. It is strictly necessary and is set whichever way you answer. It lasts a year.
• A random identifier, set only if you agreed. It is a random value generated in your browser, not derived from your address, your device or anything about you, and it exists so that ten pages read by one person are not counted as ten people. It lasts a year and is deleted the moment consent is withdrawn.
• A sign in session for the site owner, set only when they sign in to the private area used to publish. It is never set for readers.

To change your mind, clear this site's cookies in your browser and answer differently when asked again, or write to contact@onlyivan.com.

Where you have agreed, each page view records: the page, the site that linked you here reduced to its domain name, the country and city your network resolves to, whether you are on a desktop, tablet or phone, your browser and operating system, your browser's language setting, your screen size, and the random identifier described above.

It does not record your IP address, your name, your email, anything you type, or how you behave on any other website. Records are deleted after 180 days.

The first purpose is to know whether anything published here is read, and which pieces. It may also be used to select and display advertising. It may also be shared with or sold to third parties. This is the part of a privacy policy most sites obscure, so it is set out here in the same words that would be used if you asked directly.

What can be passed on is only what is listed above: pages read, referring domain, approximate country and city, device, browser, operating system, language, screen size and a random identifier. It does not include your IP address, your name, your email or anything you have typed, because none of those are collected in the first place.

No such arrangement is currently in place. Should one be entered into, the recipients will be named in this policy before any data reaches them, and the revision date above will change. If you would rather not wait to find out, decline and nothing is recorded at all.

Withdrawing consent stops this for the future and deletes the identifier held in your browser. It cannot recall what has already been passed on, which is the honest limit of any such undertaking, and the reason the choice is offered before anything is set rather than afterwards.

Separately, the site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, provided by Vercel Inc., the site's hosting provider. These count page views and page performance without cookies, without a persistent identifier and without any profile of you. Vercel derives a temporary, non-reversible hash from request data so that a visit is counted once, and discards it within twenty four hours.

If you block analytics scripts the site works exactly as it otherwise would. Nothing here is gated on measurement.

Vercel, as hosting provider, processes requests to serve pages and keeps short lived operational logs that may include IP address, user agent and the URL requested. These exist to deliver the site, keep it available and deal with abuse, and are retained only briefly. This processing is necessary for the site to function and is common to essentially every website.

Email sent to any address on this site is received and stored in an ordinary mailbox, used to reply to you and for nothing else. It is not added to any list, and there is no newsletter. Correspondence is kept only as long as it is useful and is then deleted.

Your IP address is not stored. You are not followed across other websites, and nothing recorded here is combined with information about you obtained from anywhere else. No automated decision is made about you. Nothing whatever is collected from anyone who declines.

Two providers necessarily process requests: Vercel Inc., which hosts and serves the site, and GitHub, Inc., which stores the source and the text of the writing. Typefaces are served from this site's own domain rather than from a font provider, so no request about you is made to a third party when a page loads. External links go to sites with their own policies, over which this one has no control.

Where data protection law applies to you, including the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability in respect of personal data held about you, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Requests go to contact@onlyivan.com and are answered within one month. You may also complain to your national supervisory authority, which in the United Kingdom is the Information Commissioner's Office.

If the fault is with the site rather than your data, a page that will not load or a broken link, support@onlyivan.com is the faster address.

This site is not directed at children and knowingly collects no information from anyone.
